“ By folding a single beam of laser light we create a simulacrum of the earth, suspended in space. Like our earth it hangs in a delicate and improbable balance. The viewer is reflected within the earth’s total eclipse; their actions can sustain or extinguish the sphere.”

- Honey

Life on earth can be described in the play between gravity and light. Their complex dance has given us shape, energy, experience, dreams. Gravity, the mother force which binds us to the earth; and Light, the profound revelator at the core of the universe, illuminating and travelling a pathway to the stars.

With mirrors angled to direct a single beam of laser light, we recreate the earth, suspended, and fragile within an infinite void. In permanent eclipse it is made visible by the light which flows around it. Block the beam, and the earth disappears instantly. The piece considers the complex pathways by which everything is linked; removal of any one element means the whole cannot be completed. Reflected in the void where the earth hovers the viewer understands themselves as part of this system, knowing their actions will impact on the whole.
